3.1 earthquake recorded in Mexicali this Friday

Mexicali, B.C.- An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude was recorded in Mexicali this Friday afternoon, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Municipal Civil Protection reported. It was announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was the geothermal area of ​​the Imperial Valley, near Heber, California, where several earthquakes have been recorded in recent months. According to Municipal Civil Protection, it was the northern part of the municipality in which the earthquake was felt most strongly, while in other areas of Mexicali it was a little milder.

It was reported that since it was a low magnitude earthquake, no damage or injuries were reported, while in some parts the protocol was carried out and facilities were evacuated. It had been preliminarily reported in various media that it was an earthquake of 3.9 degrees of magnitude, but it was officially announced that it was 3.1 degrees.
