At Red Bull they do not ensure continuity of Checo Pérez

The director of Red Bull Racing Christian Horner did not ensure the continuity of the Mexican driver Sergio Pérez in the Austrian team once his contract ends at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. In an interview with Sky Sports News, Horner spoke about the future of Red Bull and acknowledged that they are following various drivers who could become ‘Checo’s successor and Max Verstappen’s new partner from 2025. “There are a lot of drivers that you have to pay attention to as well. There is a generation of drivers right now that has a lot of talent. Now, being Max’s teammate will never be easy and some drivers may be up for that challenge, others don’t. But of course, in addition to the drivers we have internally, we keep an eye on the driver market,” he said. “Ideally that will come from the talent pool that we have, and if we don’t think that capacity exists, we will look outside of that to see who is available,” he added.

The Austrian team boss stated that Red Bull’s main objective is to have the best drivers in the Championship and pointed out that there are many drivers who want to be part of the Milton Keynes-based team. “As you can imagine, there is quite a bit of interest from certain quarters in driving a Red Bull car. Max is operating at such a level that his confidence, his commitment and his talent are absolute at the moment and it is difficult to imagine anyone beating him in the same team. But there is great talent out there and, of course, what we want are the two best drivers we can present,” he said.

Although Horner would be ruling out the continuity of ‘Checo’ Pérez beyond 2024, the director of Red Bull Racing showed his support for the Mexican driver after his poor performance at the Suzuka Circuit and was confident that Sergio will achieve good results. in the final stretch of the season. “Japan was frustrating and difficult for him, but he will recover. I’m sure he still has enough races left with the remaining six grands prix to achieve great results between now and the end of the season. He has at least some sort of ‘shock absorber’ for points for the weekend with respect to Lewis and greater than that over Fernando (Alonso)”, he commented.
