Fall wouldn’t be complete without Google’s annual event, and the 2023 edition promises exciting unveilings like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch. So, when and how can you tune in to catch all the action?
Here are all the details you need to know about the presentation, which you can watch from the comfort of your home, even though it’s primarily an in-person event for specialized press and special guests.
Google has invited media and the public to the event on October 4th, 2023, where they will unveil the latest additions to their Pixel device portfolio, focusing on mobile phones and wearables.
Given that this is a Google event, YouTube is the ideal platform for watching the presentation of the new Pixel devices, specifically on the Made by Google channel. At the time of writing, this channel boasts over 1.5 million subscribers and more than 500 videos.
While the live stream link is not active yet, it’s almost certain that it will be available a few days before October 4th.
Several devices are confirmed to make their debut at Google’s October 4th event: the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch.
Regarding the new smartphone family, Google states that they will feature the most advanced camera and artificial intelligence technology in the series. As for design, based on an official video shared by Google, it appears there won’t be many changes, as the rear camera module retains its design, resembling a sensor viewfinder, and the button layout remains on the right side.
While technical specifications are still under wraps, there have been rumors. It’s been suggested that the phones will be equipped with the Tensor G3 processor, enabling support for Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, an updated camera app, and an impressive seven rounds of software updates. However, it’s unclear whether this quantity refers solely to the operating system or includes security updates as well.
The Pixel 8 is expected to start at $699 and offer 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the Pixel 8 Pro, starting at $899, would come with a base configuration of 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. To sweeten the deal for the latter, there are rumors that pre-order customers might receive a complimentary Pixel Watch 2.
The Pro model is expected to have superior features, especially in terms of the camera. Along with its 6.7-inch flat OLED display (1,344 x 2,992 pixels) boasting up to 1,600 nits of brightness, it’s rumored to feature improved autofocus and a higher-performing ultrawide camera compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 7 Pro.
The Pixel 8, on the other hand, is expected to sport a 6.31-inch display, the same main rear camera sensor as its larger sibling (the Samsung ISOCELL GN2), and a 10.5MP front-facing camera.
Google has already given a sneak peek of its new smartwatch, which closely resembles its predecessor in terms of design. “Sync it with your new Pixel phone for even more personalized assistance, security features, and health information,” adds the California-based company.
Rumors suggest the wearable will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, a slightly larger battery than the original Pixel Watch (a key criticism), and a UWB (Ultra-Wideband) chip. All of this is expected to enhance performance, battery life, and precise object tracking capabilities.
As for the smartwatch’s price, it’s rumored to cost £10 more than the first-generation, according to leaker Roland Quandt.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Google also dedicates part of its presentation to sharing updates about its Pixel Buds headphone line, both the entry-level and advanced versions.
